ND Surpasses 1M Barrel Mark | Russell T. Rudy Energy LLC
It’s now official! According to a recent article in “Rigzone”, North Dakota’s Department of Mineral Resources reported that in April, oil production in the state exceeded 1 million barrels of oil per day (bopd) for the first time. This represents a 30% increase over April of 2013. 200 wells were completed in April with 600 more awaiting hydraulic fracturing.
The vast majority of North Dakota’s oil production is from wells completed in the Bakken shale which have steep decline curves. Consequently, 90 wells a month will have to be completed to sustain production of 1 million bopd.
There is further good news. The Hess natural gas processing plant at Tioga is now running at full capacity with a throughput of 250 MCF per day. This will help reduce the extremely high levels of natural gas flaring due to a lack of transportation and processing infrastructure.
