Devon's STACK Success | Russell T. Rudy Energy LLC
According to “World Oil”, the hits keep on coming for Devon Energy Corp. in Oklahoma’s STACK (Sooner Trend Anadarko Basin Canadian and Kingfisher Counties) play. The record setting Pony Express 27-1H well in Southwest Kingfisher County sustained production of 2,100 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd), 70% of which was oil.
Now, the operator has announced another success in the Meremac formation with the testing of wells in the Alma spacing pilot project. Devon is attempting to determine how densely it can space wells in the structure without compromising individual well performance. So far, five wells per section have been drilled into the Meremac, averaging 1,400 boepd with 60% oil, and minimal interference between wells. This confirms the success of a previous, two well, spacing pilot, the Born Free project, which sustained rates of 1,500 boepd with 60% oil.
Based on these impressive results, Devon will initiate a new, seven well per section pilot called the Pump House project, and anticipates yet another with eight wells per section.
Devon’s COO, Tony Vaughn, contends that based on these results, the STACK is the best emerging development play in North America. He observed, “These successful well results help us further understand the optimal development scheme for Devon’s industry leading STACK position as we prepare for full-field development in 2017.”
