EPA Confirms Fracking Safe | Russell T. Rudy Energy LLC

“After more than five years and millions of dollars, the evidence gathered by the EPA confirms what the agency has already acknowledged and what the oil and gas industry has known”.  This was the reaction of Erik Milito, Upstream Group Director of the American Petroleum Institute, to a draft report confirming that fracking does not harm drinking water supplies.  The article in “World Oil” reports that he went on to say “Hydraulic fracturing is best done safely under the strong environmental stewardship of state regulators and industry best practices.”

While the EPA was studying the issue, state agencies finalized an estimated 82 groundwater related rules which involved hundreds of discrete regulatory changes.  Milito observed “That process will continue, with our support, under the oversight of state regulators who are the most familiar with their own area’s unique geology, hydrology, and other physical characteristics.”

Hydraulic fracturing has been safely practiced for 65 years and has stimulated over a million oil and gas wells.  Since the start of the shale revolution, the practice has helped make the U. S. an energy super power.  Gas from fracked shale wells has also enabled us to reduce emissions to the lowest levels in 20 years.

Fracking supports over 2 million jobs, and has enhanced our energy security and geopolitical standing.  By stimulating domestic oil and gas production, it has been a factor in reducing energy prices in this country.
