North Dakota Optimistism | Russell T. Rudy Energy LLC

In spite of the recent collapse of crude oil prices, small business owners in the Prairie State remain bullish on their prospects, according to a recent article in “Rigzone”.  North Dakota has been one of the fastest growing states in the U. S., and until recently it appeared that the sky was the limit for economic growth.  While the big oil companies are making the headlines, three fifths of the state’s private work force is employed by small businesses such as hotels, plumbers, contractors, restaurants, etc.

Williston, ND, is at the epicenter of the state’s oil boom and business owners such as Lacey Dixon, who has just opened an organic food store of all things, remain bullish.  Dixon went on to say “We saw a need for this type of store here, so I’m not nervous at all about the oil price.”  While there are layoffs at companies large and small, there are still more than 2,000 jobs waiting to be filled.  One coffee shop in Williston is forced to close at 5:30 due to lack of staff.

Some of the jobs that remain available might not pay as well as some of the jobs that have been eliminated.  Nevertheless, the consensus among small business owners seems to be that the drop in oil prices will be confined to the short term.
