ND Surpasses 1M Bbls/day in Apr | Russell T. Rudy Energy LLC
In an interview with “Rigzone”, Lynn Helms, director of the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources, indicated that North Dakota will have produced over 1 million barrels of oil per day (bopd) once April’s production statistics are finalized. This will be a new record for the state. In March the Bakken/Three Forks shale alone produced 915,000 bopd. Approximately 94% of the state’s production is from shale plays which have already made it the number 2 producing state behind Texas.
Concurrently, 33% of natural gas produced in North Dakota was flared in March, down from a high of 36% in September. The state hopes to reduce flaring down to 25% in April due to Hess Corporation’s new natural gas processing plant coming on line. North Dakota will issue new regulations in June which hopefully will reduce flaring from its still abnormally high levels. However, operators are anxious as to what the new regulations will entail.
