Texas Railroad Commission proposed expanding its authority | Russell T. Rudy Energy LLC

Apparently as a result of the recent seismic event in the Azle, TX, area, the Texas Railroad Commission (TRRC) has proposed rule changes for operating disposal wells for frack waste water, according to a recent article in “Rigzone”.

The proposed changes would give the TRRC authority to:

-Require applicants for new disposal wells to search the U. S. Geological Survey seismic database for historical earthquakes in the area.

-Curtail or shut-in operations of existing disposal wells if scientific data shows the well is causing seismic activity.

-Require operators to report injected volumes and pressure more frequently than the current annual process.

-Require applicants for new disposal wells to demonstrate that injected volumes will remain confined to the intended area.

The public comment period on these proposed rule changes expires September 29, 2014.
