U. S. Shippers Want to Participate in Crude and LNG Exports | Russell T. Rudy Energy LLC
“Rigzone” reports that Don Marcus, the president of the International Organization of Masters, Mates and Pilots, urged congress to insure that American shippers participate in the benefits of LNG and crude exports. John Garamendi (D) and Duncan Hunter (R) introduced a bill in the House in July requiring the Department of Transportation promote the use of U. S. flagged vessels for LNG exports. Marcus is advocating the bill be expanded to include crude exports.
At a hearing held by the House Maritime Transportation Subcommittee last week, Garamendi noted that perspective LNG purchasers, such as India, require that a certain number of LNG vessels be part of their domestic fleet. He contended that reciprocity for U. S. carriers is only fair.
No action on the Hunter/Garamendi bill is anticipated in 2014, but the sponsors hope to see the bill passed next year.
